the bachelor: officer and a gentleman and trash tv
see, here's the funny thing about the bachelor. the series has been on for several years now rendering a couple of proposals, a few marriages, several amicable splits and hours upon hours of on-screen kisses, catfights and tears.last night, hawaii navy lieutenant andy baldwin proposed to his choice, tessa, a social worker for at-risk teens in san francisco. she said yes. how swell.
but look at the guy. are you honestly telling me this guy has trouble getting dates? once again, i am never one to fully judge (ha!), but the show is getting slightly ridiculous. he's a navy doctor, he's an ironman tri-athlete, he comes from a still-nuclear family, he's hot, his hairline is not receeding and he's got some nice eyes. what gives?
the show has been on for a couple months now and we've watched him eliminate attractive female after attractive female until it came down to the final two. he told them BOTH that he loved them in the 2 hours (seriously) leading up to the final rose ceremony and the proposal. one was electric chemistry and one was, what i can only imagine to be, true love.
the show is just such trash. and i tune in and/or tivo week after week. they make all of the potential dates live in a house together, so they all talk trash about each other with the cameras steadily rolling.
i wonder if shows like this ruin the american family, and then i look around and realize it's already pretty slaughtered. whether it's that stupid gene simmons family show or hulk hogan forbidding his daughter to wear tank tops or
i would also charge abc with the holy task of bringing on a bachelor, bachelorette or potential suitor or suitorettes that look a little more like american people. less six packs, less boob jobs, less perfect biceps, and maybe a size 12 or 14
i'm rambling, but i'm still hooked and i'm looking forward to the gossip to see if tessa and andy are still engaged to be married, since the finale actually filmed months ago.

i actually caught some of this season (had never seen the show befoer) the other night. it's silly. it hinges on heartbreak. and this guy looks a lot better in that photo than he does on the actual show.
